Fire Safety Tips
There are many ways to practice fire safety. Covering them all is beyond the scope of this article. But we’ll list the most important and effective fire safety recommendations from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Install a Smoke Alarm
Make sure you have a smoke alarm installed in nearly every area of your home or business. Such areas include:
- Center of home
- Outside
- Offices
- Sleeping areas
- Inside bedrooms
Replace Smoke Alarm Batteries
Once every year, change the batteries in your smoke alarms. This will ensure that they always remain powered and functioning.
Remain in the Kitchen While Cooking
Christmas usually means lots of baking and cooking. But unfortunately, kitchens can be a major source of housefires. Whenever you’re cooking or baking, always remain attentive and never leave a pan or pot unattended.
Have an Escape Plan in Place
Create an escape plan when a fire occurs. Share this plan with family members and other occupants in the event a fire starts on your property. Also, practice it to ensure everybody knows how to execute the plan and stay safe.
Replace Old Smoke Alarms
If you have a smoke alarm older than 10 years, replace it asap. An old smoke alarm will likely not function as well as it should.
