How to Care for Wet Items After a Storm
10/26/2021 (Permalink)
In the aftermath of a storm and water damage, it is common for people to have wet items that need to be cared for.
If your clothes dryer went out during the storm, here are some tips on how you can dry your clothes using alternate methods:
1. Hang Dry Outdoors
You can just let your laundry hang outside in the sun to dry. Make sure you have something underneath to catch any rain that may fall. Also, make sure the clothes are not touching the ground, so they don't get dirty or pick up anything from the dirt/mud.
2. Hang Dry Indoors
If you don't want to hang your clothes outside, you can also run a rope between two chairs and put your clothes on hangers to let them dry indoors. Make sure the room is well ventilated.
3. Use Your Oven or Stove
You can hand your wet items on a drying rack above your oven or stove, but first, make sure it's clean! Also, you may want to use this method only if the clothes are not extremely wet.
4. Use a Clothesline
If you have a clothesline, this is probably the most old-fashioned option and probably what your grandparents would do. It's cheap and gets the job done! Make sure to use clothespins so each item doesn't touch the other items on the line (to avoid mildew).
5. Use a Dryer
If you have a dryer, it is probably the simplest method for drying your clothes.
6. Use a Clothes Rack
If you're in a hurry and don't have the time to let your items dry on their own, you can always use a clothes rack indoors. Make sure your room is well ventilated and doesn't get too hot if it's summertime.
