That’s from approximately 51,000 home fires and those fires were caused by electricity. The third leading cause of home structure fires is electrical distribution systems.
Many of these fires can be avoided with added care and attention. Avoid running extension cords across or over doorways or under carpets. Consider having additional outlets added by a qualified electrician so that you don’t have to use extension cords or overload existing outlets.
Always replace damaged cords and avoid overloading outlets. Only one high-wattage appliance should be plugged into each receptacle.
Never plug an extension cord or multi plug into a power strip or surge protector
If any of your outlets or switches feel warm, or the lights flicker or dim, you should call a qualified electrician.
